Excellent! Perhaps I have an upgrade in my not-so-distant future.

I'm interested to see how performance compares to the 500GB Scorpio Blue HDD. If it's something even close, I'm willing to upgrade and take the 500GB currently in my MBP and make it into an external HDD.

The new 640GB Scorpio Blue should be quicker than the 500GB Scorpio Blue, as its two platters are 320GB HDD's rather than two 250GB HDD's. The 640GB has 1,250,263,728 User Sectors Per Drive compared to the 976,773,168 for the 500GB. All other specs provided by WD seem the same:
    WD Scorpio Blue 640GB: http://www.westerndigital.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=683
    WD Scorpio Blue 500GB:
    http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=506

I would think the 640GB will quickly replace the 500GB as the big drive of choice.:)

Good to know. Probably will wait for this and then do a clean install of Snow Leopard and deal with what's currently installed on my current HDD.

Hm, might be worth upgrading to from my 320GB 7,200rpm WD drive in the MBP - I hate not having enough space!

It seems those larger capacity HD's are 12.5 instead of 9.5 mm high.

The 12.5mm fits in the 17" aluminum MBP, and maybe in the unibodies. They announced the 1TB like 6 weeks ago. It looks like they shipped a handful, and haven't been seen since. Curious to see what "shipping" really means with this 640GB.

Yeesh. Where IS the 500GB Scorpio Black? I think I've been waiting over 6 months for them to release it. Looking forward to benchmarks on this drive though.

2 internets for the first person who can find a retailer link. 1 bonus internet if it's actually in stock at that link.
