G Tech predates Google. Not just Google Drive, but Google. So if anything other way around.

Sure, but unless they finds a way to sue Google for the control of that logo, people will be associating it with Google because of Google's much more famous brand.

Not sure that's in the USB-C spec.

It's no problem. Every external harddrive with a USB-C port has two cables: a USB-C-to-C and a USB-C-to-A cable. It's in the standard.

Actually you could use such a cable to hook up your MacBook Pro to an iPad charger, and trickle-charge it that way. The reason is, that USB-C means: power is taken care of via the USB-PD protocol (USB Power Delivery). And USB-PD also supports the old stuff, like USB 2 (5V@0.5A), USB 3 (5V@0.9A) the iPhone chargers (5V@1A), iPad chargers (5V@2A), etc.

I had the same thoughts. I wonder when this happened. Guess I will google.

Edit looks like in 2012. Also bought Sandisk in 2016.

I honestly had bad experiences with sandisk and WD so I hate to say now I must stay away from g-drives as well.

Western Digital, Toshiba, and Seagate are the only three companies that actually manufacture hard disk drives now. Every other company just buys the drive from them and brands it as their own.

Good to know, glad I don't depend on spinning hard disks anymore.

Yes, Apple, please do this.

I am almost sold on the idea of getting rid of MagSafe2 chargers, even though nearly everything about USB-C power delivery is inferior.

? Everything about USB-C is superior. And I've actually kicked my USB-C cable over a few times while charging my MBP and the cable just came right out, laptop unmoved. My experience anyhow.

Since I've been exclusively on the upper part of your little graph I haven't got a single broken harddrive. I wonder why...

Bring SSD with 8TB and larger. Once you try SSD, you never go back. Rotational mechanical disks are obsolete!
