My new 3rd gen 16 gb AT&T seems to be running just as cool as my 1st gen model. Screen brightness is about 35%. Use mostly on home WiFi. With 8 apps open, CPU usage is reported to be about 12% using System Activity Monitor. It's in an Incase Book Jacket Select case and I took it out just to check the case temp.

So please post some specs on those that are running warm.

Turn the brightness above 50% and tell us how It went
Took her out of the case and bumped the brightness up to 50%. Then I turned off auto brightness and it was a little brighter.

Let her run for 15 minutes. The lower right corner was not cool now. Not warm or hot, just not cool like the rest of the case. Inside the home we are about 74 degrees.

On my iPad, I think the heat thing is a none issue.

Try 80%... It seems that the hot is because of the screen rather than the A5X
