Anyone following leaks knew for weeks there is no phone at this event, cry elsewhere.
Which is basically as expected based on what was known/rumored about the event.
We knew this was going to happen, well those of us who believe Prosser. Lots of people owe him an apology for being right. You won't be seeing new iPhones anytime soon. Early Nov for low end models and Dec for Pro models. I called this weeks ago.

One didn't even need to follow the rumors.
During the analyst conference call following the most recent quarterly earnings announcement, Apple CFO Luca Maestri clearly stated that this year's iPhones would be a few weeks later than usual.
This served as an important heads-up for Wall Street that there would be no late quarter iPhone revenue bump (typically Apple ships the new phones with nine days of shipping left in the quarter: release on a Friday, quarter ends the following Saturday).
When a CFO tells the financial community that Product ___ is going to be late, those aren't idle words.
No one who has been paying attention expected iPhones to be announced today.

Iphone is delayed until October so no announcement but......You can't get the iPad Air until October but was announced today. Very let down. Looks like Galaxy Z Fold it is.
Apple's CFO told the world in July that iPhone wouldn't be available until October. But people hear what they want to hear.

I totally expected that Apple wasn't going to announce the iPhones today based on reports and what Tim Cook said back in July.
Life is full of disappointment. Luckily this doesn’t affect me at all.

No need to hurry. Will the new iPhones be introduced and released soon? Yes. So be patient. As Apple says, time flies...

They've been saying for weeks that new iPhones won't be released until October. Not sure why you are surprised?
I got the Note Ultra 20 and its awesome. Might not even get an iPhone 12 now. Apple really screwed up. This isn't 2010 any longer where Android is plagued with bugs and the phones are cheap crap. There is plenty of competition and there are great premium phones out there. They will lose iPhone customers over this.
Expect it won't be "a few weeks late", that's a lie. Its going to be MONTHS late. They just barely started production a few days ago. Announcement in mid to late Oct means nothing released until Nov, Pro models won't be out until Dec.
Don't set unrealistic expectations and you'll be fine in the future.
