Personally I'm not that much of a fan with the current Touch Bar. That's mostly because the design of the display constrains it for any serious usability. The current Touch Bar mostly shows things users already do faster by using keyboard shortcuts. So this got me thinking..

What if the new MacBook Pro 16/17" came with a larger Touch Bar? (EG: 3 times larger in depth) A touch screen at that size becomes way more useful compared to the current Touch Bar. A 16/17" MacBook Pro probably also has enough space for a larger Touch Bar and wouldn't compromise the size of the laptop in total.

Who's creative enough to produce a mockup? :D

FWIW I don't mind the TouchBar and have actually come to quite like it, particularly with the bettertouchtool. But I resent paying extra for it (I know there's also a spec bump over the non-TB model) and would much rather it was an optional extra.

I know its tongue-in-cheek about getting rid of the keyboard and making it all Touch Bar, but I'd be genuinely interested to see how an all-glass keyboard with haptic feedback would feel. I'm sure it will happen at some point on some machine in the next 5-10 years, but it strikes me as being exactly the sort of thing which Apple could do and do well.

And it would be dust-proof.

I like the idea of the touch bar however, it’s pointless. Maybe it’s the location of it..... nobody looks at the keyboard when I’m typing.....so, I barely even notice it’s there.

One thing I have noticed is that the more I've been using my iPad Pro, which by its nature means you have to use the keyboard more, I've started to use the Touch Bar more... Possibly just because I'm more used to my hands not moving down to use a touchpad.

Hell, I've even found myself using the predictive text thing which was always the first thing I turned off on the MBP.

Why not put the touch bar on the bottom bezel of the screen instead of on top of the keyboard? That would take away the disadvantage of having to look down to the keyboard all the time.

And while we are at it: why not extend the size of the touch bar to the size of the screen?

Oh wait....

I use an external keyboard 90% of the time and so am just used to a physical key - which is why I don't hate the Touch Bar - I just also want the physical keys. Yeah, you could just put it at the bottom of the screen or they could just go full touchscreen. The Touch Bar is kind of a bit of a touch screen - Apple just doesn't want to admit that the Touch Screen has some merit. I'd never use a touch screen myself as I hook up my MBPs to multiple, large, external displays.
