In another thread a good point was brought up concerning the iPad Pro's seeming lack of connectivity with only having a single basic Lightning port.

The point was, what about the Smart Connector? Sure we know it's used to dock with the keyboard case but is it actually meant for so much more? Is it also meant as a means of connecting peripherals requiring high speed data transfer either by using a connector/dongle or new dock? What are the Smart Connectors specs? Maybe that simple single Lightning port was never meant for the demands a 'Pro' device would normally need but instead that's exactly what the Smart Connector is for?

Anyone have thoughts or information about this new connector?

I don't think it really can be useful for a whole ton. 3 pins doesn't give you a lot of room for raw speed. Keyboards are one thing, but it won't even keep up with what you can do over a USB2/Lightning connector. Let alone USB 3 using a USB C port.
