I switched a couple of years ago & what I like best about my 13" MBP is:

a. OS X - it's just so good / easy

b. Battery life - I get 8 hours. You just never need to worry about carrying a charger

c. iLife & the whole attitude of "want to record an album / create a web site / get into photography / whatever - it's easy, go ahead"

d. The lack of pain. Easy to forget about this, but when we were a PC house, there was always something not working that needed fiddling with. OS X / Macs are just so easy - everything just works. We even have a mini running the TV & that too is easy

Curiously, although I had lots of little Windows apps that I used, I have had no problem finding free / cheap replacements, so that's really not an issue.

I suspect a MBP will remain currentish / last you a lot longer than a PC laptop.

(PS. while I typed this I kept reaching for the Mac Command key, even though I use Windows at work - shows how OS X gets under your skin!)

Hi,

I have to agree that the software is what makes the Mac.

iLife allowed my wife to record her own album which was "pressed" on to CD and sold for $15 each. I think she made about $2500 in CD sales as a result.

It surprised me that an included program (Garageband), although basic in features, was able to record a legitimate album. I have other friends who have done the same thing.

As for the MBP itself. I think it is very easy to argue that the hardware (CPU, RAM, HDD, etc.) is over priced, but it has to be noted that you are paying for the integration of hardware, software, and design. It is easy to over look the importance of this.

I finally switched over a couple of months ago after being raised on PC and I can say the MBP is the best machine I have ever used.

There is no need for justification, just take the plunge. :)

The best thing i like is I have never had any viruses and annoying windows pop-ups and alerts and all of that annoying stuff. Everything is just a lot smoother.

Case in point: I am working on a PC at work at the moment, doing some important data input and Windows' "Automatic Updates" is going to force my computer to restart (and the option to press "Restart Later" is curiously disabled!). Not that it is a big deal, but it is really annoying that I have to save everything and let the computer restart itself and then open up all my excel sheets again!
