Got a 2018 MacBook Pro - Touch Bar.

Today I purchased a superdrive, when I plug it in via the usb c to USB adapter, it picks up the drive. But when I insert a dvd film to play it asks me to select region. I select region 2, and nothing happens.

Please tell me I have not made a mistake in purchasing a superdrive which is not compatible with my Mac? :(

Thanks

This Apple support page seems to indicate you should not have problems:
Region selection advice is here:

If you have recently updated software (eg Catalina) it is possible that you have encountered a bug. I expect that Apple engineers do not do much checking of DVD operation these days.

Thanks for your reply.

I finally got it to play via VLC.

Opened VLC

Open Media

Select Disk

Then Open

Thankfully my money was not wasted ;)

My superdrive will not show in Finder, it shows in Disk Utility although the software on the disc is greyed out, it loads and ejects OK. I would like it to work because I need to try the old drivers on the disc for my Xerox workstation. Xerox have not produced a new Catalina driver yet, and the generic one does not work. Any ideas?
