I'm just recovering from having seen Besmrtna (Immortal). What an incredible production! As a small taste of its storyline:
The film takes place in New York City in the year 2095 where genetically altered humans live side-by-side with unaltered men and women, and where Central Park has been mysteriously encased in an "intrusion zone" where men who attempt to enter are instantly killed. A strange pyramid has appeared over the city; inside, the gods of ancient Egypt are judging Horus, one of their fellow gods, who has a man's body but the head of a falcon. In the city below, Jill, a young woman with blue hair is arrested. Not completely human, she appears to be no more than a few months old, and possesses a number of secret powers, including one that enables her to procreate with gods, though she knows nothing of this.
All done with a mixture of real and CG humans, aliens, backdrops, Charlotte Rampling and a gorgeous French woman called Linda Hardy. Mindblowing.

Has anyone else seen this?

sounds like something you would watch on a lazy saturday afternoon.
You know like those old 'B' horror movies with the gigantic spiders...ants etc.

I miss those movies.

Did you rent it or go to a theater to see it? It sounds very cool and I'm putting it on my list of things to see. And its not available on NetFlix yet....

D

I tried to bring it up on the web, but only found it with foriegn words in the synopsis part. Does this movie have subtitles?
It sounds like something I would love watch sitting on the couch with my husband.

Wow, that is a crazy-good porn storyline. I really admire that. Most porn doesn't have a very inventive story. It's just sex sex sex. With the whole "genetically altered" angle as well? Wow....imagine all the huge, disproportionate body parts you could add to the movie without making it too unrelated to the actual plot!

the gods of ancient Egypt are judging Horus, one of their fellow gods, who has a man's body but the head of a falcon.

And "Horus" (great name for a porn character) being a God means he's going to get most of the action with the Girl With Blue Hair, I'm sure. Giving him a falcon's head makes a bit too strange for me, as it'll essentially involve animals, but I'll go along with it just this "one time". *wink*

Yes, I'm joking. I don't even watch porn. Have only seen several in my life. Maybe I should start?

I'd not even heard of it, but it certainly sounds interesting from what you describe. Is it something that's on general release at the moment?
I saw it on DVD. Well worth looking up. Not a B movie at all.

The dialogue is in English, except for one scene in French and one in "ancient Egyptian"... :)
It's a French/English/Italian co-production with a Yugoslav director.

never heard of it either. But i like the way it sounds. Thanks for not blowing the plot in our faces. For a minute i thought that was what you were doing.

Ah, Immortel...

Helps when you spell the title correctly.

Thanks! Queued!

Blockbuster's search tools are a bit less intelligent/robust than Netflix's, it appears. And here I thought I was going to do a good ol' convertin'. Sorry, I'll stop hijacking.
Convert me to Netflix? Never. I love Blockbuster Online. So nice to be able to return the movies at the store in exchange for free rentals. :D

I didn't recognize the title, but I saw about 40 min of this flick on cable a month or three back. I was instantly captivated by the imagery, but had no clue what was going on since I missed quite a bit at the start. I ended up not watching it to the end so I wouldn't ruin it for the full viewing once I found the title.
Thanks for the title. Now I can pick it up.:)

Being such a mixed co-production, the title comes in many linguistic flavours. I suppose it's just as well it's not in ancient Egyptian.

Judging by the reviews, it's not for everyone, but I certainly recommend it.

Seen it, good entertainment.
Some strange jumps in the story, not the best CGI.
I enjoyed it, but it's not in my top 10 list.

The reason why this movie is qualified as B-movie in US is because it is a europen production!
Enki Bilal the director/writer is a very famous (franco-belgium)comics writer that is far different from what the US main stream is.

you can find more info there

The movie was a great hit in France (country where Enki Bilal lives)... i guess it might get an international success if there would be a American remake... you never know

Where does it come on a scale of 1 to Blade Runner?
It contains a touch of Blade Runner in the vision of urban dystopia, a touch of Fifth Element in the heroine, and an ommage to Aliens (one of Horus' lines is: "Not bad, for a human"), but it is in general in a genre of its own. I'd give it an 8.5.

I saw this a couple months ago, and yeah, it's pretty cool. But then again, I have a soft spot for weird-ass foreign films.

I just ordered "Bon Cop, Bad Cop" and "District 13" the other day too.

From the Internet Movie Database:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0314063/

Thanks for the pointer. I followed it and ended up watching a French 10 minute preview. Then I looked it up on Amazon (they have it). Today I rented it from the local video store. I've watched half of it and it is very very good. I like the storyline better than Bladerunner. The 'world' we are shown is richer than Bladerunner's. The Computer Generated Graphics might not be as polished but it is well worth watching IMO.

Never heard of it, and despite it sounding like the kind of film I wouldn't like I feel compelled to watch it
Please don't tell me it's cliched and recycled. Might be the next film I see since Borat.
