The beauty of the app store is that there are no "essential" apps - everyone has different needs and likes, so spend some time searching for apps that best fit your lifestyle.

Scroll through the top apps in each category, and check out the "featured" section of the app store to get a feel for the most popular apps.

Otherwise you'll get a thread of dozens of apps that may or may not be of interest to you.

Apps: The Weather Channel, SoundHound, FOX News (If you like Fox)
Games: DoodleJump, Angry Birds, Scrabble

Skyfire, XSysinfo, Skype, Evernote, Alarm Clock, Angry Birds, Infinity Blade, NBA Jam, Words with Friends, Instagram, iMovie, FatBooth, ZombieBooth, ToonPAINT, Find iPhone, Where to? , Flixster, Netflix, IMDb, iheartradio, TuneIn Radio, Ambiance, Apple Store, RedLaser, SnapTell, FieldAgent, Groupon, Google Translate,

Sorry I got a little carried away!:D

The games are paid, unfortunately I have not found good free games.

I would recommend you to have "eWallet" and "Touch Notes" because both the app gives excellent result interms of Productivity.

Touch Notes will give you the flexibilty in taking notes in three different modes. You can take Finger notes, Keyboard notes and audio notes. Taking audio notes will help a lot.

eWallet helps me to store all my username and password information for pretty much everything. These are must have apps and certainly these apps will help.

Outlook.

Take iOS's default Mail.app, put in a folder. Then take that folder and bury it in another folder. If mail and appointments are part of your everyday life, you'll wonder why you put up with Apple's stock Mail.app for so long.

Edit: Just realized how old this ahead is...HAHAHA

I went with Outlook for about 6 months, just because of the ability to push gmail. I decided to go back to the stock iOS mail app when I got my Apple Watch, because to me it's a better interface.
