I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max runnng iOS 16.2 and whenever I take a photo, I get three files instead of one.

For each photo (.jpg), there is almost always a corresponding .AAE file, plus a file with an _E_ in the filename.

What are these extra files for?

What about what I can "E" files?

If I take a photo, I get 3 files instead of one.

- IMG_E4742.JPG
- IMG_4742.AAE

What do "E" files do?

From the web;

...any edit done to these photos will generate a new file with an "E" inserted into the file name -- i.e. "IMG_Exxxx.JPG" -- the xxxx number sequence is still the same.

From the web;

But I haven't edited any photos.

Or does that imply that if you shoot with non-standard settings (e.g. B&W filter, etc) that an "E" file is created?

Even so, I just shoot straight, so why would every photo I take have a corresponding "E" file?
