What does apple look at when looking for places with apple retail stores?

It's all about revenue per square foot, I think... Apple has among the highest revenue per square foot of any retail chain. I don't think they'll open a store anyplace where the market projections don't support a number at least as high as their corporate average....

That's true... They average between $2K to $5K per sqft ... As i read that online somewhere...

they ask your zip code when you shop...that tells them where their customers come from-- if there are enough from a certain area, there could be a future store there (i worked for a retailer who used a similar technique)

I've never been asked my zip / postal code when I've been to an Apple shop either here in the UK or in the US.

Basically some place that looks like Colorado St in Pasadena CA. Hip/trendy and crap.

Apple looks for shopping malls with a Dell Direct Kiosk, and obliterates it.

IMO, they were the absolute dumbest idea to begn with -- it was destined for failure. What the hell was the logic in it? Why would anyone buy a computer, in person, that they couldn't take home immediately?

I've been asked for my postcode everytime I've bought something from an Apple Store!

Maybe it's something they're supposed to ask, but not everybody does then. I'm a bit surprised I've never been asked though. It's not like I buy something in there all the time, but I've probably made 8 - 12 purchases from various stores and not one has ever asked me.

Perhaps the employees are too lazy? Where I worked and we asked (not all the time, but when they were doing a "survey"), everyone was very diligent about asking in the beginning, but towards the end they just put in their own zip code rather than ask. Also, they may not ask every time if you have shopped there with a credit card before because your info is in the system already

everywhere I shop I'm asked for my zip code, regardless of whether it's Apple Store, the grocery store or Macy's. I assumed it was the norm nowadays.

They only have 4 stores in Canada! 3 of which are in Toronto. I wish they would put one in Vancouver.
