I think that it's fine to enter college or university with a clear idea of a career. However, it's equally important to be sufficiently flexible to make a change if you find you want to move in another direction. It's all too easy to stay on a path because it's not as hard as switching. I started out in engineering and ended up in medicine - not the same as changing majors as an undergrad, I know, but still a big change.
