I have an iPhone that can't be upgraded past iOS 7, and use computers which operate on Yosemite. The only stuff that I sync to current iCloud are my contacts, calendars, reminders, Notes app from iPhone (which I rarely use), app data/settings, and that's about it. I don't use the iWork, and don't use iLife. I also don't use Photo Library which is available for iCloud.

Will upgrading my Yosemite systems from regular iCloud to iCloud Drive have any negative affects on syncing the information mentioned above?

Does iCloud allow you to share files with other people, the way you can using Dropbox, which allows you to create links to the files?
