Im wanting to try out an android device; however, I am on verizon and i can't just swap my sim into certain phones. I don't want to change carriers, but I don't know how I can try some of the best android phones. I preferably want to run stock android. The only thing stopping me from getting an android phone is iMessage and the camera on the 5s. Do you thick trying a nexus 7 tablet would test the waters of trying my android itch?

Moto G, used Nexus 5, Nexus 7 or used Moto X will all do the trick for you.

Nexus 5 doesn't run on VZW. I'd suggest the Moto X. But you're trying to compare a phone thats $350 to a $600 iPhone. Will the specs be the same? no. Will the camera be as good as the 5s? no.

I was like you a few months ago, but I got a used HTC One from swappa . com for $300 and like it a lot. I was so sick of iOS. I have a mac and and an iPad, and work all day on a mac. Android is different from iPhone in that, there are different devices for what you wanna do. You have to find the one thats right for you.

*EDIT* You can walk into any VZW store and get a new SIM card for free. The One took a mini SIM and my iPhone had a micro SIM.

On Verizon I would get either the Moto X or HTC One, the Moto X is more stock like, but sense on the HTC One is also really good. Neither has a great camera though.

If you want to try a larger handset, the Note 3 is the best phablet available, even with touchwiz.

I am actually very interested in the htc one. Where could I buy a verizon htc One off contract? Also can the verizon ones be able to put stock android on it?

You can get them from Verizon, the M8 is $599 and M7 is $499. You can also search on eBay, Craigslist, and swappa, just be sure to make the sale at a Verizon store and have them activate it, to make sure it won't be put on a blacklist.

As for converting it to a Google play edition, I'm not sure if that will work, other members Herr would know better than I.

Do you actually want to make the switch and replace your iPhone or just try and see if you'll like the Android interface? If it's the latter, Best Buy has the Verizon Moto G 8GB on sale for $50. You don't have to add credit or anything so you can basically use it as a $50 Android version of the iPod Touch. It's almost stock KitKat with the addition of some useful Motorola apps. It's a very inexpensive way to dip your toes into Android water.

Normal pricing for Moto G GSM model is $180-220, too. However, the one on sale for $50 at Best Buy is a 3G-only CDMA phone that can only be used with Verizon service. I'm guessing part of the cost is subsidized by Verizon since they're expecting to easily recover them via service fees.

Nope. Verizon Moto G is CDMA only (no SIM). You can only use it with Verizon prepaid.
