So I'm probably going to stay with my 2019 for a bit.

I have a W5700X MPX in one system, and the stock card in another.

if I remember correctly, I can get 3rd party cards for these systems, and I don't feel like paying exuberant Apple prices for MPX modules right now.

What are some of the fastest compatible cards?

If wanting to stay with Mac OS then can buy the non MPX version of the AMD Graphics Cards.

so basically AMD 6000 series cards. There is no 7000 series support in Mac OS.

if happy to windows then whatever you want from Nvidia.

Apparently the RX-6950XT can be spoofed to work in macOS, and this would be the fastest/best card that works in both Windows and macOS -- there is a thread on this somewhere in the main forum, search. Honestly though, it seemed like quite a headache to get the spoofing to work, and I would just recommend picking up an RX-6800XT or 6900XT instead.

As @mcnallym said -- if you don't care all that much about macOS, then yeah, an RTX 4090 in Windows is your best bet.

Thanks for the replies!

I am sticking with MacOS.

Would the 6800/6900XT be a signficant improvement over my existing W5700X ?

Would I want to keep both in, or replace the W5700X with either of those? I use the computer for After Effects and Cinema 4D.

Any more advice is greatly appreciated!

I wish the MPX Modules weren't so expensive still, since I'd like to pick up a W6800X or W6800X Duo.

The 6800 + 6800duo + 6900 MPX cards will always be expensive because they are quite rare. most 7.1 mac's shipped with low end cards. even used they are expensive, you could build a faster machine just for the price of MX cards.

The 6800XT/6900XT are among the fastest GPUs that are natively supported in MacOS currently, so it doesn't really go higher than that at the moment. If the intent is to buy and use till you move away from the 7,1, it's probably the way to go. Cinema 4D would benefit greatly, along with After Effects.

I have a 6800XT in my 7,1 and it has been great. Replaced my Vega II MPX module with it a while back and not a single issue.

Only $500 for the 6800....that seems pretty good!

So you replaced the MPX with the new card...no sense in keeping the old one in with the new card? I'm not sure if the programs can use both cards (I'm really green on this stuff).

I don't use Cinema 4D, but my understanding of it is the most benefit is in a single powerful GPU, with additional plugins being what takes advantage of multiple GPUs.

Yes, I replaced my MPX module. These GPUs are natively supported, so you don't need to keep your current MPX module unless you want to, for like the Thunderbolt benefits.

The 6800 XT variant is really close to the 6900 XT in terms of performance, so it may be worth getting that if you want to save a little money.

The new cable-free card standard that ASUS showcase, look kind of similar to the Apple MPX.
But would it fit? Probably not.
