Hot Fuzz
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Snatch
Transporter
Any James Bond film with Sean Connery

Edit: oh and Kalifornia (how could I forget that?)

I forgot to mention The Illusionist. I've heard a lot of people say they didn't get it or didn't like it, but I thought it was a good period piece, good story (albeit a bit slow), good acting, an ending twist, and a bit more intelligent that your average Hollywood faire.

Agree with northy124 about Der Untergang (The Fall) - a gripping German film about the last days of Hitler. Das Boot was also excellent (thanks, raggedjimmi, for citing it). I can't believe that I didn't mention LA Confidential, or The Godfather (I & II, not III).

Cheers

It is actually called The Downfall (US Title)/Downfall (English Title) not The Fall.

I stand corrected; Downfall is the title I remember, (I wasn't concentrating while typing, mea culpa; I kill students for similar carelessness!) Great movie, though. All of the actors are superb, (especially the pair playing Dr Goebbels and Magda Goebbels), and Bruno Ganz is mesmeric as Adolf Hitler.

Oh wait! I have one to add

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

Well remembered! I've seen that and agree; it's spellbinding, utterly haunting.

Some of Clint Eastwood's modern movies also merit inclusion - I thought Unforgiven was excellent (and The Outlaw Josey Wales was a very good, thoughtful and subtle movie). Nobody has mentioned Citizen Kane - powerful, extremely subtle and superbly well-made.

Ooh, I love Silence of the Lambs. "It puts the lotion on it's skin, or it gets the hose again." I love that line *psychotic twitch and evil manic grin*. I don't believe I forgot that one to. My favorite movies are changing all of the time.

Don

I just flipped it on, and was drawn in immediately... The person who played lector was a great actor, and so twisting.

Parenthood
40 Year Old Virgin
Star Wars (yes, all of them)
Kill Bill (1 and 2)
The Matrix (only that one)
Gladiator
Serenity

I am still a sucker for some of the 80's movies, but as far as movies that I could watch over and over again those are choices. I only recently watched Serenity for the first time, frankly I hadn't heard of it until it was on cable. I liked they way it was scripted with the mix of and alien language, and poor grammar. I can't adequately explain why I like that one, I just do.
