DAC converter

Before buying new phones, you should, IMHO, try out the NuForce UDACII [no affiliation] unit which is just over $100... I have been using Shure in-ear phones and Sony studio monitor cans and the difference between the direct output and the DAC output is amazing. I could have saved myself some $$$ by buying the DAC before upgrading my in-ear phones rather than the way round I did it... admittedly, the DAC doesn't work with portables but if you use your Mac a lot, you will just love what comes into your ears...🙂

Over the years the best earphones I've had (in no particular order):

  • Yuin PK3 (earphone)
  • Shure E2C (in-earphone)
  • Head-Direct RE2 (in-earphone)
  • Sennheiser CX300 (in-ear)
  • Yuin PK2 (earphone), just ordered

I love these, they are extremely well balanced and are real professional IEMs for audio production and of course for listening. Normally $400 on sale for $157
Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10

...you really need to go to a store you can try out a bunch with the music you listen to on a regular basis... Only you can decide what sounds good to your ears!

I personally think that Apple's in-ear headphones are the best, yes they're expensive, but they're one heck of a lot cheaper than Beats. The sound quality is amazing on them & I would highly recommend them to anyone who has a budget of £60, you can them off eBay for around £40 though... Well worth the money!

I would go over to amazon and get a pair of SoundMAGICs. Inexpensive and great sound.

I wouldn't spent a huge amount on in ears. In my opinion any better headphone needs some decent amplification before they are worth their money.

Good luck.

Yep they're pretty good, I gave them as a present to a friend of mine together with an iPod nano. And anyway,in my opinion, purchasing a £ 200 headset just for an iPhone is a pity... as it plays mp3 😛
I purchased these tips:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Silicone-tips-iPhone-iPod-headphones-ENHANCE-BASS-REDUCE-NOISE-/260909830775#ht_4424wt_960
Now I can really say the headset coming with iPhone sounds almost like the in-ear version... saving about 58£...😉

Personally a big fan of the Bose In Ear headphones. Nice sound and with the different tip sizes they actually cancel outside noise pretty well just through a nice silicone seal against your skin. Reasonably priced too.

+1 Bose QC20s are the best. Super comfortable and the noise cancelling is great on planes or in noisy offices. I got mine for $50 off during a rare sale on Amazon.
