Here's hoping that macOS preview at WWDC brings FaceID to macOS. What do you think?

M1 Pro and Max laptops get FaceID, and then maybe M1 machines (MBA and mini) when connected to Apple Studio Display? But that would leave out iMac.

It seems the A13 in the ASD is sitting there waiting for stuff to do, lol.

On any FaceID device you will see two camera eyes. An eye for the camera and then a feint eye for the infrared.

On my iPhone the camera is covered with a black-out sticker, but the infrared is left open. I can use FaceID while the selfie camera is completely blacked out. If I open my camera app and switch to front-facing, it's blacked out.

Studio Display has one camera. It does not have infrared. You'll be able to verify this by comparing your iPhone to the Studio Display or MacBook. If you look close enough, shine a bright flashlight, there will be only 1 eye visible where as the iPhone will have 2 eyes.

None.

Yeah, I totally forgot about the infrared camera and other hardware required.

I guess it's good that I purchased the TouchID keyboard to use with M1 MBA in clamshell mode.

I feel like I've read multiple articles over the years theorizing the possibility of secret features being added at a later date and they've never come to pass.

I want to see touch id on a backlit keyboard. I don't mind having a USB cord for power if needed.

Of course Touch ID on a magic mouse would be even better!

Exhibit A: M1 Ultra
That’s a new product. What I’m saying is that hardware features are seemingly never revealed after purchase. Sure the M1 max in my MacBook Pro has an unused bus on it, but that doesn’t benefit the existing product.

Unless you crack one open and find a VCSEL laser system in there (there isn't one), not a chance in hell.

The A13 is in there to control Center Stage and Siri. That's it. There is no hidden feature coming soon or bigger plan. Apple needed a chip for those things, they have the A13 laying around, so that is what they used. And before someone mentions the 64GB of storage, it is simply that it was already on the board and it is cheaper to just leave it than modify it.
