I currently own a second-generation ipod Nano. I'm planning to replace it with either the Nano 5G or my first ipod Touch.

Could someone please help me by outlining the differences between the 2nd generation Touch and the newly announced 8gb Touch?

Thank you kindly.

DUDE, get the NANO!

i like the ipod touch, BUT the new nano is ROCKIN' theres no difference in the 8 gb models, but the 32gb and 64gb have a faster processor, but not the 8gb lol.

go with the nano, its sooo sweet, and especially for $150 and with a camera, it rocks!

You can get the 2G: 8GB = $150
16GB = $200
32GB = $250

3G: 8GB = $200
32GB = $300
64GB = $400
(these are the prices from the apple store)

Get the 2G!!!!!!!!! its a better deal if you just look above. Im gettin' one. You can jailbreak the 2G, so you get the apps for free. The 3G won't have have a jailbreak for another 6 months at least!!!!! SO GET THE 2G

It's not a 3G iPod touch. The 8GB model is exactly the same but pre-loaded with 3.0 at a lower price.

You are indeed paying for the 3.0 OS

However, I went out and bought a new 8GB and it seems to run very smooth.

The only thing you will not get is the cloth that used to come with them.

Nobody has opened the new 8GB's so it's possible there can be some hidden features not mentioned.

Suggestion, go buy the 8GB 2G at Best Buy if they still have some. You can buy them for $163 or try E-Bay.

The 8gb has no changes between the 2nd and 3rd gens. The 32 and 64 have several changes, 3.1.1 OS already installed (I am not having any problems with apps like those are upgrading) faster processor and the open end GL that newer apps are going to need.

Money wise and newer technology you would be smarter to get the 3rd generation 32gb. Why spend the same money for a 3nd generation 16gb. Should be a no brainer:D

I won't spend $300 on a 32gb Touch when I believe next year's Touch will have some serious upgrades.... that's the one I'll buy.

Until then, the 8gb or a Nano will do.

Keep in mind, the new processor and graphics chip inside the 3G iPod touch makes it benchmark about 5-10% faster than a 3GS. If that's not some serious upgrade to you, then IDK what is.

Preliminary CPU tests indicate an advantage for certain tasks. The graphics chip has not yet been benchmarked (that I know of).

I agree. I own a new 32gb and can say there is a noticable speed difference with applications as well as web.
