What are the differences between these 85W Magsafe adapter

Hello, what are the differences between the following two 85w adapters?

Am I correct that the first one can only be used with older MBP such as MBP 2010 17" while the second one can only be used for rMBP?

Correct. But it is only a matter of different connector size and shape. Retinas have it thinner and wider. Called MagSafe 2.
You can actually connect the old power supply to new retina pro using this adapter:

- So far as concerns MacBook Pros, yes. The first one fits all non-Retina MacBook Pros and also all pre-2015 MacBooks and all pre-2012 MacBook Airs. The second one fits all Retina MacBook Pros and also all post-2011 MacBook Airs.
