Specifically interested in the 15" model.

Which CPU / GPU / RAM options do you think it will come with?

If you were to guess a release date, what would it be?

Anyone have any ideas?

I am thinking...

Kaby Lake processors
Same GPU
Same RAM (or maybe possibly with up to 32GB ram with a bigger battery)

Date wise - about 6 to 8 months from now Oct - Nov.

You're probably right about Kaby Kake and the timing. I'd guess there will be an upgrade for the dGPU. One analyst claims there will be a 32GB option.

I'm hoping for a slightly smaller touchpad, sort of cleaning up the current version of the laptop a bit with an even better keyboard. Also, if I'm allowed to dream, they'd move away from the fake click of the touchpad and make it hardware clickable again.

Agreed. I know that's not going to happen, but this MBP was my first experience with the Force Touch trackpad (my last one was from 2012) and I'm realizing I prefer the old "mechanical" click as well as the smaller size. The trackpad is really the only thing I don't like about the current model.

Possible specs for 2017: "terraced" battery and thus improved battery life, Kaby Lake, GPU upgrade (still AMD though), 32 GB RAM in the 15", lower prices(?), Fall 2017 release

The physical design will remain the same for at least the next three years or so. And don't expect OLED or more ports.

I think we will probably see changes in the battery design/formula!

What I would love would be a variable geometry touchpad where the active area can be modified, with Apple Pencil integration.

One report a few months ago mentioned IGZO panels were to be included in the 2017 MacBook Pros, so maybe we'll see that.

But I'm curious to see what they'll do with the battery, if they even do anything.
