The Shining
Jacob's Ladder
Alien
28 Days Later
Night of the Living Dead
Blue Velvet (I know it's not a horror flick, but I love being creeped out by Lynch)
Ringu (but The Ring was a good adaptation)
Psycho (original)
Dr. Caligeri's Cabinet (1920) , Nosferatu (1922) (actually, all German Expressionist movies)

I don't like slasher movies. I'm more into psychological horror. Also, black and white movies tend to scare me even if they're not horror films per se, especially film noire flicks. Oh, one more, "Carnival of Lost Souls" is a real creepy 1950's cult classic.
I've watched all these movies countless times, analyzed some of them shot by shot for various film studies, and yet still allow myself to drift into dread.

Anything with Madonna in it - most definately scarry :D

And any of the multitude of Japanese horror films Hollywood screws up with their remakes - many mentioned by others

[insert scary faced smiley here]

So far from previews Wolf Creek and Session 9 look interesting... but thanks for all the suggestions. It'll take me a good while to get through some of these ... :D

Said it before in the other thread, but the only movie that has ever really scared me is 2001: A Space Odyssey. The first time I watched it I was so freaked out and had to turn on all the lights in my apartment.

And the only movie that ever kept me up for most of the night was Irreversible.

That scene in Ringu. My blood ran cold and I couldn't move from my chair, 'twas brilliant!

Honourable mentions to: the ending of The Blair Witch Project and the scene in The Descent with the night-vision camcorder ( ).
