I am considering to upgrade the internal hard drive of my MBP. What are the two largest HDs for SR MBP these days? Compared with the 160GB drive which came with the laptop, do they consume more power and create more heat? Are they noisier?

the largest is 500B by samsung, but i dont know wether it is available yet.

WD 320GB scropio
and samsung M6 spinpoint 320GB

You can get a 320 gb for about $140 or so.

The 500GB Samsung Spinpoint M6 was released back in March so it is still relatively rare. I wouldn't expect to find it easily until around summer. And btw, it is $299. That's a little to much for me for just 500GB... guess buying 500GB Desktop HDDs at $89 has spoiled me 😛

Whether to get a 320 Samsung or a 320 WD appears to depend how you value battery life. The Samsung 320 has SATA I which is more energy efficient than the WD 320's SATA II. The WD 320's SATA II gives it slightly better stats.
