I was looking at one of the news items of leaked supposedly iPhone 6 front covers ( at http://news.mydrivers.com/1/312/312009.htm ) and was curious of some differences between these and other such leaked covers.

What are the details at the bottom of the part?

    Do earlier models have these?

Someone know what they are and what they are used for?

    Thanks.

I don't know what they are, but that's a 5.5" screen. Good find.

So far noone knows what else it could be, so I guess I will have to disclose what I think that it is not entirely impossible that it might be. :)

I am thinking perhaps this could be part of a solar charging cell.

Thin, transparent solar film exists already. The solar film could be attached to the back of the front cover, and the details at the bottom of the front cover could be a part of this cell.

A company called Wysips had this demo via engadget: link.

Another company called S2E solar has an apparently similar technology: link.

Apple has a patent for using solar panels with a touch screen: link.

And Tag Heuer is making a phone which has solar charging technology: Engadget Link.

According to Tag Heuer: "An invisible photovoltaic component is built into the sapphire crystal screen, which produces enough electricity under specific natural or artificial light source to charge the phone." link.

So Tag Heuer is making a solar charging phone with a sapphire crystal screen. I wonder if Apple just might also do this, and as soon as with the iPhone 6?

Perhaps there will be some sort of gestural or pressure controls alongside the home button?

How can you tell it's not the 4.7?

What are you basing that off of?

Well, if the home button opening is still the standard 10.9mm or so, I'm afraid the see-through area in the OP's image comes in under 5" - Meaning it's more likely a 4.7" than a 5.5" front cover.

Sadly...from the source page, the other images show the panel compared to the iPhone 5 panel, and it's only slightly larger...so this isn't a 5.5" panel, it's the 4.7".

I need more proof that the 5.5 is coming :(

I measured the diagonal distance of the part with Gimp, and compared it to the home button which is likely the same size as iPhone 5s.

I got 4.72 inches. So looks like it is the 4.7 version.

Very interesting.. and something like this would be a sensation. I'm a bit skeptical, sadly, as I feel something this huge would have leaked already. We can always hope! :D

Who knows what that is. It's not even an official iPhone glass!

    Haha. No way.

This is just the glass for the iPhone 6. It is an incomplete part.

The glass and the LCD are one part. One digitizer assembly.

I have an LG G2. This is what my screen digitizer looks like

It's just a redesign of the digitizer assembly.

Whatever it ends up being, it is just a simple redesign of the screen. Apple will always fight to keep the cost down to increase profit. They won't do anything too fancy.

    Build low, sell high.
