What are those hooks for on the MBP's charger?

I am not amazed at all.. there's still the connector to discuss

and the charger ID code

and the actual prong thingies

and how to replace them

Most people I know didn't even know they could flip these things out much less know what to do with them, so I find this question very valid.

That said when told my folks how to wrap the cord around they still choose to bundle the cables with rubber bands.
