hoping to upgrade from my series two when I finally trade or sell it. Just curious what everyone else is doing with their old watches when upgrading. Passing on to family members, keeping for sentimental reasons or selling/trading?

My old Apple stuff usually goes into my Apple museum :)

My Series 0 Watch was destined for the same fate, but it worked so well for me over the last few years that I thought it would be a shame to leave it doing nothing. So I decided to pass it on to my 18 year old son. He absolutely loves it!

Giving my Series 0 to my (adult) daughter. She's also been the recipient of every iPad and Kindle I've purchased. :)

If she didn't want it, I'd find someone to donate it to. I like to practice giving by giving my old tech a new life with a new user.

I ordered the Apple trade-in kit, but first checked with family/friends to see whether any of them wanted it for the price Apple would give me ($225 for my Series 3 Cellular). No takers, so I decided to give eBay a shot. Wound up selling it for $261. I had the original box, all accessories, and the watch was less than a year old, plus it had a year of AppleCare remaining. I'd had a screen protector on and the thing was like new. I also threw in a backup brand new screen protector (which won't fit my new Series 4).

The buyer got a great deal, and it offset some of the cost of my new watch (I went for the SS this time).

Gave my Series 0 stainless steel to my 12 yr old daughter. Seemed like a better option that the $25 trade in credit from Apple

My 8 year daughter wouldn’t like the series 0 42mm stainless steel launch day watch, and my 15 year old daughter is still happy with her series 2 watch, so my old AW sits in the draw, I love my new S4 watch however :)

How does the trade back program work? Do they give you cash on the spot, or do they have to send it in for appraisal? I assume that if you order online, the best you can get is an Apple gift card with the value loaded on it.

What accessories are they asking for during trade in?
They sent me the kit (which I tossed because I sold it), and it didn't look like they wanted anything but the watch. Mine would have been good enough for a refurb, but presumably they would try to sell something like that with brand new accessories.

You don’t get cash. You get an apple gift card or a refund towards a purchase made within the last 14 days. Online if you’re putting it towards the purchase of a new watch I believe they give you the credit right away, if you choose a gift card I’m not sure how long that takes. I traded mine in in-store and they refunded the amount to the credit card I had just used to purchase a series 4. I also traded in an old iPhone in-store and received an apple gift card on the spot.

If/when I upgrade my S0, it's going straight into a drawer where it'll probably not see sunlight for the next 10 years.

Right now it's worth next to nothing; it may be worth something one day, just like the original iPhones.

I read somewhere that these days original iPhones are worth north of $2,000; and if it's a 4GB model it's worth even more (!!!!), because this means it's an even earlier model. Insane.

When I bought my S2 two years ago, I gave my original S0 to my son (now 15). With the new S4 on my wrist, I gave my S2 to my son, and I reclaimed my S0. Neither my wife nor my 14-year-old really want it, so I'm using the S0 as a backup Watch. I wear it while the S4 charges or when I'm doing something messy or potentially destructive (like Friday when I was painting).

Just checked and my S0 SSSB is worth £55 to Apple, so off it will go. My dad had been wearing it for the last year but now he is sporting my S3 instead.

Wow this thread shows how bad resale value is of Apple watches. I’m trying to sell my s2 stainless (which admittantly I paid for second hand at more than 50% off), but I’m not getting any takers and my price is reasonable.

The resale is horrible because the differences between generations is huge. At least that is my opinion.

Sold my older Apple Watch models months back, as I correctly assumed the Series 4 was coming in September. I did fairly well and the market was still strong at the time with not much saturation as there is now on the used market, which completely dropped the value of the older Gen models when the Keynote was quickly approaching.
