The year is 2005. For 8 years, You have been in a symphonic metal band with 3 of your best friends from high school, in which one is a female operatically/classically trained singer. Due to various circumstances with a bit of diva issues going on, you decide part ways with the singer, in an open letter to the world. Your fans are in shock, then express anger, in which you take on fully, to the point where even people in positions in government in your home country get involved.
You retreat to yourself, very distraught in what has happened, even though you know it is the right thing to do, yet even contemplate dissolving the band and committing suicide. Then you hear the words that your mother and father had spoken to you.. and through it all, you come up with the divine, yet cathartic idea to kill yourself in a song so you wouldn't have to do it in real life...
.. sprinkle in the insertion of yourself into Edgar Allen Poe's
The Pit and the Pendulum, add in some wonderful historical references that show how you are feeling, the entire London Voices Choir, the London Symphony Orchestra, and a choir boy to sing the first parts (the choir boy sings all of the higher parts on the album version), mix those at Abbey Road, include your own eulogy, and write the entire piece in five parts, but in reverse, where the end is the beginning of the song, and the end is the beginning (of a new phase in your life and the band)...
.. And you get
The Poet and the Pendulum, by
Nightwish.
Oh.. and set your timers at when the child whispers "Now I only have three minutes and counting". Talk about genius writing, and why they call Tuomas Holopainen the Metal Mozart.
