Never gave Faith No More a proper listen (I know I'm ashamed at myself), I really like them after listening to loads of there stuff. This song really stuck out for me its so Type O sounding yet its not.

A bit of a blast from the past, but I heard it on radio earlier tonight and, naturally, then had to revisit it, as this was a song that absolutely blew me away when it first came out.......

The Song: 'Vienna', by 'Ultravox' (especially the wonderfully gifted Midge Ure), who was, in his person, the very epitome of what I understood by the term cool in the early 1980s.

And, what a video accompanied the song - simply spellbinding. Electrifying. Utterly seminal.

And, above all, strange to relate, is how, just over thirty years after its initial release, is how well this song has aged. I thought at the time it was an absolute classic and I still think so.

A little night of Cuban music......Buena Vista style.

Just now, I'm listening to Omara Portuondo singing the utterly sublime 'La Sitiera'. And, earlier, I enjoyed the group Afrocubism and their amazing song 'Al Vaivén de Mi Carreta'......and other songs, among them 'Benséma', 'La Culebra', and 'A La Luna Yo Me Voy'........

Yes, I like Kate Bush - but in fairly small doses. Mind you, I do understand the desire to listen to melancholic music sometimes, especially if that is the mood you are in, or feel the need for it to reinforce a mood........strange, isn't it, the tendency (of ours) to listen to music to confirm your state of mind rather than seeking music which might serve to change it?

Anyway, for sampling melancholy on an epic scale, you could do a lot worse than listen to some pieces by Philip Glass; try listening to his formidable 'Symphony No 2', (epic but bleak), his 'Concerto for Saxophone' , not exactly what I would call 'happy music', but has a grim majesty to it, or his 'Glassworks' (some brilliant and powerful stuff, especially the opening track which is superb), or, his 'Dancepieces' (again, some epic, yet uplifting pieces) and the wonderful (but deeply depressing in parts, plumbs the depths and scales the heights) soundtrack to the movie 'The Hours'.

Oh, as exquisit as a post/observation as a choice of music to listen to! I have to think about it while doing some more introspective examinations. Have to find Glass on youtube...strange feeling when you're melancholic while working in the office. I have to thank god (in an agnostic way / placeholder for genuine engineer) for creating the headphone. And music of course.

I too agree on listening to Kate Bush in rather small doses.
