faster ibooks... say a 1.2 Ghz Gobi processor with altivec and a 200 mhz bus. yeah, that'd do it. :)

I'll drink to that.

Include 64MB of VRAM, a combo drive, and a higher RAM capacity (DDR of course) for $1200~1300 and I'll be one happy camper.

What im looking for in my next comp will be whatever is out when my Dual 867 just CANT play the newest games anymore... like with minimum settings and its awful, but I plan on feeding it upgrades. Seeing I can do UT 2k3 with 50 FPS at max everything, I think that time for a new comp i quite a ways off....

since i just got the 17" PB, i'll prolly wait 4 years, and by that time the PPC 970's succesor will be released. I'd like to have atleast 6+ hour battery life. I think the screen size of the 17" PB is just fine. No less for me. I'd like to see the weight go down maybe to 5.5 or 6lbs... i know it's hard to lower the weight, but it'd be nice.

I'd want one of those blue laser DVD burners (i think they hold about 10x or more storage than regular laser DVD burners). I'd also like to see apple get an integrated 5.1 speaker sound card. Some 6in1 memory card readers, and by the time I'm going to upgrade, maybe they'll have a 3d GUI. I don't really care too much about speed, however, it would be nice to be able to play any PC game that will come out... (I wanna play Deus Ex 2!!)

I won't buy a new computer until it can perform the duties of all of these devices seamlessly...

- Tivo(on steroids)
- Hi fidelity stereo/ MP3 jukebox
- HDTV (or whatever they are calling it now)
- Blue laser DVD recorder
- The Next Generation of Cooling - Stirling Cycle for silent operation and superclocking capabilites

OR

- a 17inch powerbook w/tablet capabilites and an OLED screen.

I want a computer that chases squirrels and steals your picnic lunch. I want a computer that gets bored while I'm at work and prank-calls Microsoft tech support. I want WiFi control over my coffee maker. And my roommate. And the cat. I want the ability to hijack passing iPods. I want a computer that reduces fat while locking in savory chicken flavor. I want four on the floor and a fuzzy 970 chip hanging from the rearview. I want an Airport station that cleans my laundry with sonic waves. I want a keyboard with gold teeth. I want fries with that.

LOL! Best laugh I've had in a long time!

That is the funniest post I think I've ever read!! I am still laughing 5 minutes after reading it!!! Thanks for the laugh (It improved an otherwise crappy day).

I can't be funnier, so I'll be more matter of fact.

I'm gonna be realistic here - the next computer I buy will be a 15" or 17" PowerBook with a SuperDrive, hopefully a 970 PPC (I'm not gonna buy it for a while, no money right now) and possibly an external display, preferably a 23" HD because I want to watch DVDs on it and make it an entire home theater system.

If it heated up the butter to pour on to the popcorn, that would only be a plus.

A new 970 (silent) cube with upgradability/PCI-X.

Otherwise I'll just get a 1.4 GHZ upgrade for the one I got now.

what am i looking for in my next computer?

well, i $uppo$e that there'$ nothing in particular that i would like to $ee in a new mac... oh, and it would have to be a mac of cour$e...

hmm. then it would be a matter of a kick butte de$ktop or apple's awe$ome laptop$. i think i'd go for the laptop, in which ca$e, i'd be looking for:

rea$onable power (i'm not one to diss the g4, i'm using a 266 g3)
good graphics gpu (dvi out??)
combo drive (i don't need to burn any dvd's)
great battery life
rock $olid O$ (even if we can't $ay it's unix ba$ed)
good app$ included $o i don't have to buy anything el$e
built in 802.11b/g (i can do just fine with b, i mean, really, i have no purpo$e for g)
firewire 400 and 800
usb 1.1 (don't need or want 2.0)
breathtaking $creen

and i $uppo$e that i'd want $omething, umm, well,

cheap.

that of cour$e would be the important factor - the difference between my drooling and my u$ing. but drooling can be fun, right?

matt

high performance (edit: in all common applications, DVD/Cd authoring, Video editing/conversion, browsing, general multimedia, games), iMac form factor with upgradeability. Optimized OS. Widescreen HDTV LCD with component inputs and DVI.

Wintel price/peformance-like ratio.

Dead funny, no less...

It's always good when your colleagues around you have these question marks above their heads and are asking themselves what's so darn funny.

:p

now is definitely the best time ever for bang for buck in computer gear and it will continue to get better

when i got my ibook 300 g3/32 sdram/3 hd, it could have used more ram to be efficient and used more storage but the price of 1599 seemed reasonable

but now the same price will get you a 12 inch powerbook 867 g4/256 ddr/40 hd, with combo drive and bluetooth tossed in and in no way would 1599 get you a laptop that is lacking in anything for the money

I just want a computer that will let me do what I need to do without interfering - something that's fun to use. Ever since my mac died, i've missed this most about OSX.
