The speed mainly (upgrading from a 3G). Not going to even use anything camera related on the phone so that's useless to me.

Yeah, the camera is nice in theory, but I've never used a camera on any phone I've had more than a handful of times. I'm just not one of those people. If I want to take a picture I'll ask someone else to do it, or bust out an SLR and do it right.

I'm just excited to HAVE one finally! I've lusted after them since they were first announced, but couldn't rationalize the expense... I finally said 'eff this! It's mine.'

I'm totally naming mine, "My Precious" on iTunes as it's the only thing I can focus on right now!

In order of importance to me:

1. Speed increase. Having had the blazing iPad for the last two months it seems like my 3G is running in quicksand and is almost unbearable to rotate, load web pages etc. That is about to change on Thursday!

2. The Retina Display. It looks amazing and it is what you look everyday so it matters.

3. The design. I have long since given up using a case (I may use the bumpers, I like the look of the black phone and white bumper) on my 3G and am amazed by the fact my unprotected screen is flawless. The same can't be said for the plastic back which is scratched all to h*ll. With the new design which has a more aggressive square look, but most importantly a new glass back I think this is really going to be a phone that 2 years from now looks as good as the day I purchased it... without a lame leather or silicon case.

4. Face Time. I *am* the guy in the video watching his kid from the hotel. As an airline pilot I spend 2 to 3 nights a week in a hotel and my kids are 2 and 5 years of age. iChat video was ok but kids that young don't really want to sit in front of a computer and "talk". Now my wife can hold the phone and use the *back* camera to show me what the kids are doing while I use the *front* camera to talk to my wife. This isn't something "new" it is something *better*.

5. The camera. With a 3G I can't do video (the video apps on the app store sorta work but it isn't for anything real.) With a 4 now I can take excellent stills and 720p video of my kids with something that is in my pocket all the time.

6. Multitasking. Without upgrading I wouldn't have this feature. As I use Pandora all the time and might be interested in some location tracking apps running in the background this will be a great new feature.

7. Folders. I have way too many apps and it takes way to long to navigate. This will help in a dramatic way.

The ability to create a folder into which I can dump all of Apples useless, packaged, un-deletable apps into. Good riddance awful apps!

LOL. My email signature on my iphone used to be "Sent from the Precious".

the speed for sure. Using my 3G is painful now. but the design aspect also really excites me
:)

Display, speed increase, battery increase.

The display is probably the biggest thing because my 3G's screen is just a tiny bit cracked:D.

Everything.

I'm a lifelong Mac user; but this is my first iPhone (switching from a Blackberry Curve on Sprint). So yeah ... I'm basically excited about every single aspect of this phone. :)

Let's see, I'm upgrading from a dumb phone and a first gen iPod Touch.

Soooo.....

Isn't there just a box I can check somewhere for everything!!!

  • Facetime
  • Two Cams
  • HD Video Recording
  • Multitasking
  • New Chip
  • Battery Upgrade
  • Retina Display
  • Hmmm.... Everything,
Amen.

I can't find any real flaws. For the last three years, I could make a list of what the iPhone lacked. Can't do it this time. Apple finally got it the way I wanted it while improving on many other things.

I'm not even an Apple fanboy. For awhile, I hated anything from Apple. But after using the iPhone and iPod touch, I grew to like their products again and just tolerated their philosphy, culture, and the salivating from all their obnoxious fanatics. I will likely not get Flash support, but hey, that's why it is good to have two phones. One for a back-up to enjoy the best of both worlds (open and closed). I'm still waiting for more polish from Android and more phones with Xenon flash AND optical zoom. At this point, Android hasn't gotten there yet. Palm's webOS has more polish, but lacks the hardware. iPhone 4 seems to be the most balanced while still improving on durability and battery life. Even the most jaded Apple critic must admit this version looks like it is going to rock!

I look forward to a speed increase. I have a 3G. I have never had a problem with the 3G but faster sounds better.

And I like new gadgets :)

I am upgrading from the 3G, speed is the most important thing, but I will love the HD camera and Facetime. I am just looking forward to getting a new phone.

My wife on the other had just wants a phone that that the case is not cracked. It just started to crack a couple of months ago around the 30 Pin Connector (White 3G 16 gb). Men and women see the world so differently.

3G is slow with new apps and games. I need a camera, and I want Skype working in the background so that my parents can call me anytime. ...and all the rest too!!

I'm probably most excited for more RAM and better battery, though I am kinda psyched for the improved camera and video recording capabilities as well. I've been doing a lot of training for a marathon in January and have been taking many photos while out with my 3GS. It'd be nice to have the pics that I'm already taking with a cell phone camera look that much better. It's not going to replace my P&S or my DSLR, but it'll be better than what I have now. :)

Oh, and the improved display, too.

HD video recording/iMovie (was thinking about getting a pocket HD cam but no more)
Multitasking (pretty much all of iOS on the iPhone 4)
Improved camera with flash
A4 chip
512MB RAM
Gyro
Retina Display
First iPhone that I like in terms of looks since the 2G

I'm mostly looking forward to the new physical design and the high res screen. The design of the 3G/3GS was always bleh to me and the iPhone 4 looks more sleek. I was just complaining a few months ago about the pixalation on the iPhone screen and so I'm really looking forward to the clear display.

jesh i'll be excited just to receive it and take a hour to open it before anything else haha

I know what you mean. I am going to spend the majority of the first hour just taking my time admiring it's beauty and looking at the thing before I even start to explore the new hardware. Few things have gotten me more excited than from just the looks of this product. :D

Battery!!!

I use the hell out of my 3GS, and the battery simply isnt cutting it anymore. If I don't make a conscious effort to charge it at every opportunity (4-5 different times throughout the day) then it simply will not make it any more.

I am ready and excited for a 40% larger battery!

Basically the only thing I care about is the Retina Display. I am still not in love with the design and couldn't care less about cameras in a cell phone. 3GS is really fast for me already with iOS 4 so that is not something I'm looking forward to either. However, I think that Retina Display will make the upgrade more than worth it!

I am looking forward to the speed boost over my old 3G as well as shooting HD video in 720p.
