New Moon

All the girls in my school were reading this series, so i figured i'd give it a try. It's actually quite good. So far, i like Twilight more.

The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind by Julian Jaynes

An awesome, crackpot theory about the origin of consciousness. Richard Dawkins described it as "...one of those books that is either complete rubbish or a work of consummate genius, nothing in between!".

If it's true, it would also explain the origin of religion and gods. Highly recommended reading.

Just finished three in quick order:
Spook Country - William Gibson : ruddy great.
Ocean Sea - Alessandro baricco : reread, one of the most beautiful books I've ever read.
The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break : another reread, another beautiful book.

Also reading a couple of books on photography technique, have two risk management books on the go, and am slowly working through Iain Banks' Matter. If anyone can recommend something good on phtographic composition I'd be mighty grateful.

Margaret Atwood - mention of her makes me want to reread Oryx and Crake

And I'm about to start the new Richard Morgan book (The Steel Remains).

Just finished Demon in the Freezer by Richard Preston. It was really good - all about how smallpox is still out there in labs all over the place, and nobody really has control of it.

Waiting on amazon to deliver the latest Timothy Zahn books.

Ravenor (Just finished the Eisenhorn Omnibus)

I confess I can't bring myself to read high literature when school is in, so it is gritty scifi or Pratchett.

Watchmen.

I had to read it to see what all the hype was about. I never realized that graphic novels could be this deep. So far it's pretty good.

It is very good. Check out "V for Vendetta" and "Promethea", too.

Just finished American Psycho by Ellis.

Good book, but sometimes had to look away. Reread it actually and bought the movie. Nice to see the small nuances in the movie you wouldn't get unless you read the book.

I love Brett Easton Ellis. Have you read anything else of his?

After a lot of hype I thought I'll give Unaccustomed Earth a try! Seems I'll have to scroll through Lahiri's other collections as well now!

I have not. I read the jacket on his other books and they all seem to be carrying the same theme of rich people who have it all but are emotionally troubled and in different times and locations. Set to detailed descriptions including the gore.

I was going to get one more Ellis work and if it was told in a different tone than American Psycho, I would read others. But judging from American Psycho and just the short blurbs on his other works it seems almost like he is a one trick pony. But I will give it another book until I decide.

Any suggestions?

Always happy to see more people reading WATCHMEN. I've read it once a year for every year since it's come out, and I always discover something new about it. I hope more people read it before the movie (as it would be a shame if that's the first experience you have).

Currently, I'm catching up on FABLES.

Currently reading Ron Powers's biography of Mark Twain. Next up is the unabridged Count of Monte Cristo.
