I will end it at home, in a non messy way. I want to leave a nice corpse for science.

When I get to the point where the foreseeable future becomes a nursing home, it will be time to simplify meal planning immediately, and revert to heavy reliance on "both food groups" of my earlier and blissful innocence. I will leave behind a greasy skillet.

In all seriousness I am starting to lose my fear of eating assorted foods I've been taught by modern media (and some science) to avoid if I want to live a long life. I've already lived longer than I ever expected to, and longer than either parent did, so every day seems like a somewhat miraculous bonus to me, even if I now sometimes squander some of it on stuff like bacon and eggs. Cue the Apple "sosumi" sound...

My mother has advanced Alzheimers' and, in recent years, all of the usual advice about diet and seeking to address her high cholesterol and dodgy ticker (she has a pacemaker and God knows how many stents) have all gone out the window in favour of a diet that is simply "give her what she likes".

Fortunately, that still includes (organic, butchers') sausages and organic vegetables, but fish and chips, Asian home cooked and Asian takeaway, sweets (candies to our Transatlantic Cousins), cakes, ice-cream and other such delights are also consumed in are quantities.

I am sure that's the best approach for someone deprived of so many other aspects of life in later years. I hope she can continue to enjoy the foods that she does like.

In her favor regarding candies, the currently recognized oldest person in the world, who's just turned 113, apparently attributes his longevity partly to eating sweets.

I have to draw the line before that for me, since really I'm not that into sugar and if I'm gonna die from eating something, it's going to be bacon.

My basic food groups in early prime of my working life were caffeine, bagels w/ a schmear and takeout Chinese food without the rice. Breakfast, breakfast, 3am suppers. God knows what fell in between. Enough beer to cause me to hang up my drinking shoes early...

So I'm not 100% convinced that even if I do uptick my intake of bacon and eggs now, it won't be the cream cheese from the bagels decades ago that finally kills me. I continue to work on improving my rationalizations. That beats fearing death itself, which seems futile since one day I'll bump into the grim reaper when I least expect it. Why rent that scenario space in my head in the meantime?!
