I just realized that the iMac does not have a Line In audio port on the back - I just assumed it had one.

For the past 4 years I've been using a Mac Mini which has a Line In - and any external audio sources (Guitar/Bass/Microphone) I use are plugged into there via XLR to 3.5mm or 1/4" to 3.5mm for recording in Logic.

I know there are lots of USB options - just looking for opinions on something simple again for XLR/1/4" and 3.5mm plugs. I do not need Midi or anything else. Thx.

That port can be line in or out. It's not not output only. I know that it works nicely when I have my earbuds and did voice chat through it so I don't see why it wouldn't work as a regular line in 3.5mm
