We don't miss any shows, even with just 5 channels we still get all the big series from the states along with local shows, movies and lots and lots of sport.
We might get all the big series from the States and UK, but in some instances have to wait months or years after they've screened elsewhere. Or the really good stuff gets shown at ridiculous timeslots, where it never finds an audience and then gets shoved around the schedule.
My favourite example of this is "Friends". Channel 7 in Australia bought the first series, but due to some reciprocal broadcast rights problem, Channel 9 bought the second and subsequent series. So, we're left with the problem that Channel 7 doesn't want to screen it's single series that'll lead into another channel getting the viewers! I think we finally got to see sometime into when the third series was being shown in the States!
We also have the problem of stations airing shows and then stopping them mid-season (or wherever they please) and calling it "the season finale". Did you know "Veronica Mars" season one apparently ends before Veronica finds out who killed Lily?
Fortunately, we have the internet and multi-region DVD players to be able to see television as it's meant to be seen!
Oh, and my favourite stuff, in no particular order:
Scrubs, Veronica Mars, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, My Name is Earl, Doctor Who, Blake's 7, The Tomorrow People, The Avengers, The Professionals, Life on Mars, Spicks and Specks... at least to start with.
