i have three friends who exhibit symptoms of what i believe may be asperger's syndrome, but i don't know (i have only read stuff and seen a tv show or two)
one guy is a programmer who took 17 years to reach a 4 year teaching tenure even though his education was stellar, but he does not relate to people and teaching is maybe not what he should do...but research is ok
one guy is forever 16 years old, well into his 30s, and has had only one girlfriend but he's like michael jackson in some ways and like bill and ted's big adventure (keanu reeves character) in another way...he has the uncanny ability for rote memorization without undestanding "why" of it
and the other person i know plays guitar and gets lost in it when he plays but does not relate to the other members of the band or what the audience is doing...he goes into a catatonic state of music and goes by the beat of his own drum...if he breaks or loses a guitar, no biggie, but if he loses his guitar pick, then he really stresses...he's very generous with his money and time, but can't lose his guitar pick
all three people are awkward, and walk stiffly, but ok once you get to know them but it's a process that can take years as opposed to most people who you can get to know in days or weeks
is this asperger's?
EDIT: the first two people i mentioned seem to fit the classical definition of the disease more now (especially the first one) now that i looked at some stuff on the web, but it's still not very likely since less than 1% percent of the population have it but it seems to be four times more likely to have the disease if one is male
einstein and newton are thought to have had asperger's
