I recently bought an M1 Mac and was looking for an alternative browser to Safari that does not utilize too much battery or cause a lot of swap issues.

Chrome. Realize it's not memory optimized, but it's the one I'm most familiar with and I have two profiles (business/personal) that is sync'd with 2 Macs and 1 Windows computer. I haven't had any issues running it. No performance issues.

I actually tend to use Safari for most things. I use Firefox or Edge for Reddit, as for whatever reason, Reddit causes Safari's memory usage to skyrocket. No such issues with Firefox or Edge.

I keep a copy of Chrome installed but rarely use it.

Will say that Safari and Firefox can resize windows as smooth as silk. Edge/Chrome are pretty janky when resizing browser windows (presumably because the UI isn't actually native to macOS but is created in the browser itself).

I mostly use Safari. I use chrome to check my gmail. I have been using Vivaldi a bit more recently if I don’t want to use chrome. I also sometimes try out Edge.

My personal use and all my personal bookmarks are in Safari. The ONLY reason I use Chrome on my work Mac is to keep my work bookmarks in a separate silo. I do log into Chrome in the interest of syncing my work bookmarks over to my my Chrome instance on my iPhone/iPad, but that login is a company supplied account I use ONLY for that purpose. I do not even have a personal Google account anymore.

I like Orion by Kagi. It's WebKit (Safari) but can use extensions from Firefox and Chrome. It's in beta but works pretty well currently. Some extensions still don't work yet, but it is work in progress.
