Thinking of upgrading my late 2012 I Mac to maybe an Air 2018/2019.

Just wondering as it would be my only Mac, rest of family, and me, use iPads, iPhones, laptop now, so it's only me who uses the iMac.

Although I mostly use iPad now at home, still not ready yet for all iPad. Mostly because of my Photo library, but also use iMovie and odd convert of videos etc. I'd love to be able to dabble with Xcode some time when I get time though, never coded so just messing really.

So just wondering what the Air 2018/2019 can and can't do. It wouldn't leave the house really either, I'm thinking of notebook purely as bit more flexible in the house as in not stuck at 1 desk and can send to TV for big screen use.

It seems a lot of people have the Air for use out and about and have a 2nd Mac. I wouldn't, so just wonder if any of this is there only Mac and is it enough, and what it can/can't do.

Thanks

I have a base 2018 Air and it runs everything I can throw at it flawlessly: Office, Photoshop, iAWriter, browsing the web. But I haven't edited video on it; that's just not my thing. I use mine mostly for writing, and for that, it excels.

Your correct on return, but I'd rather know beforehand if can. I want to sell my iMac to fund as well so want to know.

They are so so tight on SSD sizes, to only give 128Gb in today's environment is poor tbh. I also have to think about my photo library storage.

For writing yes it would work, but almost anything would for that tbh as doesn't flex it much. I'm trying to think of the hardest, most intensive thing to make sure.

Anyone run Logic on this spec (it’s for my son)? I would upgrade to 16gb RAM. Is it really that slow? Geekbench makes it quicker than my 2012 MBA (now dead) but not by much.

However, the refurb store in UK has 16/512 for 1329, saving 350 on new. Just thinking ... (original idea was to get iMac but think portable more useful, however all the other portables are well overpriced)! Help ...
