Ummm.. how about the dual processor, extra speed and the 9x graphics!

Exactly, considering the difference the 3GS was to the 3G that is reason enough to buy the iPad 2. Twice as fast is nothing to sneeze at. When I had my 3G I said, what a waste the 3GS is. I don't need any more speed... Yeah, until I used a 3GS and realized how slow my 3G felt.

I believe that the real benefit will come from apps not yet even developed. Think about some of the very recent boundary pushing games (Infinity Blade, RageHD and the like) and mull the prospect of apps that really push the ipad2 to *its* limits, and I think that's the stuff that'll really make us go Yow.

Those features are great, but mostly defined whether the apps are taking advantage of them or not.

Not necessarily true. Any app, especially games, will take advantage of the new GPU. Just compare frame rates on the 13" C2D MacBook vs the dedicated card in the 15" C2D MacBook Pro. The game hasn't been rewritten in any way but the increase is significant to say the least.

Depends on what you're looking for on the next product. For example, to me, the reason I went for the 3GS over the 3G is the video recording capability and auto-focus camera. Some will see the camera being the must have on the iPad 2, and others that couldn't care less could be happy with the cheaper iPad 1. The dual-core + GPU stuff may not matter to most people.

does anyone know if the iPad 2 has better word processing than the first one? The apps for the first one were mediocre at best and couldn't really do the job needed for college/graduate school, did Apple improve on this because I have heard nothing.

It doesn't depend on anything.. it is FACT that the iPad 2 is faster just like the 3GS was. That doesn't mean anyone has to upgrade, it just means that its faster and therefore a legit reason to call it a difference. The iPad 2 can do many things, if not everything, faster than the iPad. That was the OP's question and it remains fact regardless if someone feels its for them or not.

 Who said the iPad 2 is not faster? Nobody said that.

In the end I decided to buy an iPad 1 in mint condition. A bargain at these prices.
I'll wait the big leap with ipad 3. iPad 2 dosen't seems a big step to me.

Apple improved the hardware. Apps remain the same, although I'm sure we'll see continued improvements.

In reality, word processing is NOT a particularly hardware intensive task and I doubt any forthcoming apps in that arena won't run just fine on an ipad1.

Since neither ipad isn't intended as a laptop/desktop replacement, I wouldn't recommend looking to either for that requirement.
