I have a relatively new SE that a dropped shortly after I got it and cracked the screen. No AppleCare because I’m an idiot.

Any ideas on what to do with it? Repair is $250 at Apple, a brand new SE2 is $330. If I’m paying $250 I feel I might as well upgrade and get AC. But I get no trade in value for the cracked screen.

Would an independent shop buy it?

I don't think there is any repair with their watches, it's garbage when it fails. I treat them as such and buy used. $700 for a SS that will be garbage in 5 years? Why bother.

Check and see if your homeowner/renter policy has any relief for this.

Also, is there any protection under the credit card you used to buy it (assuming you did)?

Otherwise, just attribute to bad luck and the used market will get a bump in about a month when the new 8 is available if you want another one. I bought a used 6 for ~$200 earlier this year, if I get 3 years out of it, that's all I would expect.

I get what you’re saying. I was looking at the refurb store and prices seem a little better.

Thing is my two Apple Watches have been gifts. I never saw myself spending that money but I also started to like the benefit of fitness tracking and stuff.

My big concern with buying used from someone is if it is still water tight.

You might be able to find a deal on a Titanium 6 or 7. Those had an extra year of warranty IIRC. If so, and you can find one with Apple Care included, you'd be covered for a while. I was able to buy a 5 Ti watch on here earlier this year for around $300 that still had apple care on it. The higher end models don't seem to retain their value well at all, which sucks for those buying them, but makes for great deals for those who buy them second hand.

A local shop might be able to repair it. What would be a max price considering the prices of a new one? I believe they repaired by S0 a couple of years ago for maybe $60 with a new battery and screen. This was before I got the SE.

Replace it yourself.. The screen is already broken so if you follow the replacement guide it shouldn't be too bad
$159 (40mm) $179 (44mm)

Because an Aluminum AW will be garbage in less than year once it has been dropped a few times or smashed into a few door frames.

My 5 year old Space Black SS AW3 still looks perfect after 5 years. I am debating replacing it but I love the SB finish.

They must have given me a either a SS or magical SE by mistake. More than 18 months and no scratches.

Perhaps the wearer is just magically able to avoid all those hazards. No watch has survived 18 months on my wrist with no scratches except for my SB SS AW3.

Just an update... I bought a new, 2nd gen SE at Apple last week.

I'll sell my cracked one on eBay. When I bought this, they were selling for $70-100. I just couldn't justify paying to repair it or trying to repair it myself (I would need to buy some extra tools/equipment which would add to the cost).
