I want to get a HomePod mini.

However in my household there are three iPhone SE2 models and one iPhone 12 Pro Max

I’m wondering how much more limited our SE phones will be in comparison to the Pro Max iPhone my son has. (The rest of us older folk can’t bear to lose the home button)

I am so confused with your post. What has a HomePod mini got to do with your iPhone SE?
In terms of what features are and aren’t supported.

I would imagine my teenagers iPhone Pro Max phone would be able to do more with the HomePod mini placed in the main living room as opposed to my wife’s and I iPhone SE2 or my adult daughters iPhones SE3….

…. Considering the SE2 & SE3 don’t have a ultra wide band chip.

The ultra wide band chip has to do with cellular connectivity at 5G ultra wide band speeds. If you are using your phones on wifi inside the home then they should all have the same functionality with regards to the HomePod mini.
