I have a 2015 15" MacBook Pro, and two days ago, it refused to boot up. I pressed the power button and there was nothing. It's like the MacBook Pro was dead. I tried resetting the SMC, but it didn't work. I couldn't even clear the PRAM and NVRAM because it requires the MacBook to be in a bootable stage.

I removed the battery and the SSD and put it back, and it booted to MacOS. But then, it crashed and shutdown and wouldn't boot again. I removed the battery again and ran the diagnostic, but it crashed and shut down again and refused boot. It removed the battery and plugged it back in quickly reset the SMC, NVRAM and PRAM, and I haven't had an issue since. What caused this bizarre behaviour?

I had the power plugged in at all times when this happened.

Did you buy any chance change the DPI Scaling from the default to any other scaling level?

This happens on my MBP Pro 2019, if I change the scaling to anything BUT the default setting *which sucks BTW* then after the loading progress bar reaches 70% it just goes to a black screen so I have to force shut it down a few times, sometimes it boots, most of the time it doesn't. Setting back the scaling level to Default fixes the issue for me. I hope they fix this in Catalina 10.15.1

Is this a retina MBP?
With a glued-in battery?

Or... is it the non-retina, with the removable battery and a DVD drive?

If it's non-retina, you might just get a new battery and change it out.
If it's retina, I'd take it to the Apple Store and buy one there --- should run $200 parts & labor.

Hello. It's the Retina with ForceTouch trackpad. It's working perfectly now. It's not the battery that's the issue. I'll report it to Apple and see what they say. The thing is, it's out of warranty so I don't know if they'll look into it.
