Little debate here at home, wondering which you'd side on:

What charges an iPad more quickly; plugging it in to a wall outlet and placing it in Airplane mode or turning it off completely?

I keep being told Airplane mode is good enough though for some reason I believe my 3rd Gen iPad charges so much more quickly with the device off.

Simple poll

I'm not an expert on batteries, but I assume turning it off would charge it more quickly as it's not using any power

Having it OFF may reduce the charge time by a small amount.

But I would recommend keeping it ON during charging with at least wi-fi active so that iCloud backup and wi-fi syncing can be automatically achieved.l

I always charge my Rmini with wifi ON and have been very happy with the recharge time. How pressed for time are you anyway??

I leave it on while plugging in with wifi on most of the time for overnight. During daytime I sometime turn it off if the battery is down at 40%. :apple:

All devices regardless of who makes it charge up more quickly with the power turned off.

Is being "right" on this trivial matter worth all the time/effort you are expending with polls ??

Plug in your iPad and get on with your life.

It helps by turning it off completely, not by much compared to airplane mode. Too lazy to wait it to boot up and couldn't be bothered by the tiny amount of time saved than to have it boot right away, well it's just me.

Think about it logically. How could a state where the device is still activated, albeit drawing minimal energy, allow the battery to charge faster than a state where it is completely inactive?

In a practical sense the difference is probably very small though.

Obviously Off charges it faster, but the difference is probably so small that the effort and time required to power down and then boot it up again later probably makes it not worth doing.
