What finish/color

Went to the Apple store today and spent ages debating between the Blue and the Space Grey, both of which were in stock. They brought out the Blue watch and I got to compare with my current Space Grey (series 3) under sunlight (inside the store) and in darkened conditions.

As way of background, blue is by far my favourite colour and I've used mostly a blue sports band with my Apple watch for years. I've also lost count of how many blue covers I've had for various iPads/iPhones over the years. However for all my devices (AW/iPad/iPhone/Macbook) I've never gone for any colour besides Silver/Space Grey or similar.

So although I was very tempted by the blue AW, I ended up buying the Space Grey. I think I'm just too used to having neutral colours for my devices, and I guess I feel that it will be easier to match colours/etc to the Space Grey...

Same as @sky87, as much as I'd be tempted by the red or blue AW I ended up buying the same as I've always had: Silver Aluminium. But this time I got a S6 Nike, and went from GPS only to GPS + cellular.

OMG yes, totally understand. That's why I ordered a space grey at first for the same reason, but I ended up going blue. I feel like it's a dark enough of a blue color to match with most things.

I'm doing 44-Blue-S6 and then getting a black/black Nike Sport Band. It'll cost me $50 more doing it that way, but it is what it is.

I'd planned to go to the Apple Store and look at the silver Series 6, but my local one is closed for an unspecified time due to an outbreak of COVID  I've got a space grey Series 3 and was wondering about changing this time.

I popped into a John Lewis store. They had a blue on display - first time I'd seen one other than in photos and videos. The blue is very subtle in most lighting and is really lovely, which backs up what others have said about it. Unfortunately you can't try them on in the store...

Also, they didn't have a silver version. So I've gone from wanting to decide between Space Grey and Silver (which I can't find anywhere) to now also wondering about the Blue. :(

I love the blue but went with Graphite because of the DLC coating and Sapphire screen. Graphite has such a lovely shimmer that changes from almost black to silver depending on the environment.

From the pictures I've seen, the Graphite looks the nicest of all the finishes. But I'm sticking to aluminium. A 44mm aluminium cellular Series 6 comes to over £500 in the UK which is ALOT for a watch so I won't be going up to Graphite.

Going kayaking with the new watch, had some good light getting to the starting point.
Nice. I don't have blue, my first ever AW so I went for super-conservative SB titanium and wondering whether I should have been more adventurous but I'll take another dip into the AW world next year and add another finish then, if not before. Blue is tempting me to make a second s6 purchase since I get the impression they shake up the finish selection a bit each year so that colour might disappear once s7 comes along.

Looking at your pictures supports what I've been thinking these last few weeks, that the blue finish would pair very nicely with many of the sports bands. The blue is a colourful watch in the first place so adding multiple extra colours into the look because the sports bands have different colour accents in the bands themselves down the edges takes it up to another level I think. The combo you have is great but I bet the blue would work really well with quite a few other sports band colours too.
