What Constitutes an 'iPhone Killer'?

Surely, it can't be features alone, as many phones have far more impressive feature sets on paper.

Yes, it is the features that make the iPhone what it is and no other phone has come close to matching the features of the iPhone.

Touch: Other phones have so called touch screens but when compared they are "push" screens. Only iPhone has a true touch screen.

Browser: Other phones have browsers buth when compared to the iPhone there is just no comparison. Not sure how long this will last.

UI: No other phone is as easy to use.

Hardware: How many other phones are as thin and also have a 3.5" screen.

iPod: This is pretty much impossible for others to compete with or you would have competitors to the standalone iPod.

App Store: 20,000 and counting and ease of use. I know others are just now trying to get into the game.

It is going to very difficult for any phone to be a true iPhone Killer unless Apple decides to never change it again and the App store drys up. However, I would love to see some true competition to keep Apple from getting lazy.

For my sake i hope you are because I have been waiting for the next generation iphone for about a year now and if they take this year off and don't do anything exciting i will be pissed!

The "next generation" iphone came out right in the middle of the year you've been waiting.

I have two takes:

A. A person or Entity with homicidal tendencies towards an iPhone
B. A phone with a superior User Interface... Google is the closest yet, but keep an eye out for Palm

Have you guys seen those iPhone blending videos? That seems to do the job...

But apart from that, I'd have to go with the Pre/Android. My money, at the moment, would actually be on the Pre, because I feel that Android might not be all it's cracked up to be (though I sincerely hope otherwise).

There is no iphone killer just copies. The best phone is what works for you I love my iphone and my E71 for different reasons so they share a sim card. This year i'll be buying the newer iphone and the n97 all these other phones like the htc and lg offerings look like the work of companies scrambling to do damage control.

I liked the article (either MacRumors or Wired) that said that all other phones out now, especially new ones are just "copying" parts of the iPhone and using them in their 'new' phones. That's what RIM did and all the others are just copying the features of the iPhone.

Apple will put out the next 'iPhone Killer'.
