I used to want nice sleek aluminium, but after handling an iPhone 4 in the Apple Store, I want my new Touch to be like that.

. I personally love the glass back. Unfortunately, that seems less likely to be implemented. I could be happy with aluminum though.
I love the sturdy, flat back of the iPhone 4, but if they gave that to the iPod touch their designs would be far too similar (they've always been made of different materials.)
I kind of want a flat aluminum backing, like the 1st gen, except aluminum instead of chrome, but I expect a curved aluminum backing like the iPad.

True. While it may be shiny at first, the overall long-run is just terrible. They got rid of it with the Classic and the Nano. I think it's fair to say it's the iPod touch turn to lose the Chrome.
Titanium would allow for durability and lightweight efficiency. Though I feel as though this would have a great effect on price since aluminum is far cheaper and readily available. On the flip side, I'd pay a pretty price for a polished tungsten carbide iPod Touch or iPhone. It would stay scratchless considering the long odds I'd ever drop it on a pile of diamonds.
Isnt Tungsten cheaper than titanium? I think tungsten would be Apple's best bet for a scratch-less backing that also looks great

If they changed the iTouch to an iPad-like design, the average consumer would think of it as a smaller, cheaper iPad and buy it instead, thus eating into 's profit margins. And doesn't like things eating into its profit margins.
