So just right now, I was watching a YouTube video in splitscreen, and using Safari in the other screen on my gen 1 iPad Pro 12.9”. Somehow, I accidentally tapped something between the two screens and they instantly swapped places. This could be useful for me on a day to day basis, but I cannot figure out how to replicate this. I tried googling but it didn’t turn up for me. Does anyone know how this was done? Also, does anyone know if it’s possible to make splitscreen the way it was pre iOS 11, where you just swipe left from the right side of the screen and the second screen will come out? I kind of hate the having to drag a new window from the dock then having to place it and then expanding into splitscreen. It’s tedious. Anyone have a solution? Thanks for the help!

Both are simple to carry out.
To swap two split screens over, all you need to do is look at the top of the right hand screen and you will notice a small bar in the centre.
Simply place your finger on the bar and drag Left. It will cause the screens to swap over and the other window will now have a bar at the top.

As to you hating to have to continually drag an app up from the dock, you do not need to do this providing that app was the last one you used.
All you need to do is place your finger on the right hand edge of your screen and drag Left. This will hen bring back the app you last used.

Thanks for the tips! First one works great. I can’t get the second one to work though. Nothing happens when I drag from the right edge to the left. Do I have to turn this on in settings somewhere?

No, once an app has been brought up from the dock it remains in memory no matter what other app you use.
As an example:-
You have Safari loaded and from the dock you press and hold on the Notes app then drag up to load it to the right of Safari.
When you've finished with the Notes app you then drag it off the screen.
You then load a different app and once again want the Notes app up. This time instead of going to the dock you simply drag from the right hand side towards the centre of the screen and the Notes app slides back out again.
Job done.

This is only true when the app is in slide over. It can be put off screen and back on. ON probably had it in split. Once an app in split second dismissed you can't swipe from the right to bring it back. You can work around that by putting an app in split into slideover then pushing it off screen.

Which is exactly what I said in the example. You swipe it off then swipe it back in later. It's kept in memory.

Indeed, but the context of the question seemed to be in split view. That swipe it off, swipe it back on again only works when the app is in slideover. Hence why I suggested first putting an app in slideover before dismissing it.

The split view was relating to the first answer I gave the OP I.e. how to swop two split screens over.
The second answer and the one the OP requested further clarification was only ever about slide over. :)
