as a longtime user of apple computers (1979), i always expect something amazing from them...apple IIe, macintosh, LC 2 and 3, quadra, powerbook, imac, ibook, g4, etc...
but since motorola got stuck at 500 mhz for 18 months and now that they have not delivered chips over 1 ghz, apple looks to be faltering for the first time in their history...as it relates to mac faithful's expectations
and since there really is not a hint of a g5, power users are possibly switching to risc based athlon systems for the first time
to see longtime mac users threatening to switch to pcs is disturbing
our college web publishing department used to be macs, now they are dells
our business skills center used to be half macs, now it's all dells
i have never seen the mac faithful in such a funk and i think part of the reason is because the pc world is pulling so far ahead each day
but since i am not a power user, this does not really affect my day to day
apple has to do something soon to retain its shrinking base or else people will start saying they miss the good apple of the old days
sj might have helped save the company, but he is not known for being able to hold down a long term strategy...he is a company starter and visionary, but it may take someone else to keep it steady from day to day
apple started with a bang in 98 and 99, then slowly started to lose its grip each month until we have the complainers of today wishing for ddr ram and a faster cpu
