What do Americans honestly think of Canadians and Canada.

I once read one of those "You know you're in Canada ..." lists on the internet.

The one I remember most vividly was "... you step on someone's foot, and THEY apologize."

I laughed because it's true!

That looks more like a grad student's fantasy than an actual plan. I can imagine a lot of nutty plans circulating in the brand-new Pentagon in those days that no one ever believed would happen.

However, there were plenty of other times when someone in Congress or other suggested invading Canada. In the War of 1812 we actually did.

And in the 1890s there was nearly a shooting war with Britain regarding the borders of South America. Some people seriously suggested threatening to invade Canada (which had few soldiers to defend it) to get Britain to back down. Britain pointed out that they could steam into New York City and shell it to ruins. Both sides backed down and realized that a few square miles of jungle weren't worth fighting over.

The check on McSorley's stick after an LA goal was way uncool. As a Bruins fan it was my automatic duty to root for LA that series, since I wanted the Canadiens to loose badly.

Honestly, my most favorite TV show, Stargate, and most favorite band, Rush, is from Canada.

Took the same trip too, but took the VIA Rail from Vancouver to Jasper, then a motorcoach to Banff then to Calgary....

One of the best/most beautiful trips, ever, ever... :D

BTW, you're just "US" with a different flag... :eek: ;)

Nothing could be further from the truth. They have national health care, and I noticed they're much thinner than we are too. They are more open and welcoming to different kinds of people. I thought Chicago and NYC were diverse. Toronto was far more international than either city.
 
What do I think of Canada, eh? What's there not to like about America's hat? I like the country. Except for Montreal, the people and lifestyle in Canada is very similar to the United States (parts of the US, at least). Montreal is very european and "feels" foreign. The rest of the country, though, would feel very familiar to most Americans.

I love Victoria and all of British Columbia. I spent a lot of time in the Pacific Northwest and l went up there quite a bit. If I had to live in Canada, that's where I would live. I love the whole climate and atmosphere of that region...which includes the NW US.

When I was in school, in Oregon, we had a lot of people who came down from Canada. They were all great. Love them hosers!

There's talk if Ontario ever became it's own soverign country, parts of Canada would eventually became a territory or future state(s) of the United States. That's an interesting possibility. Though, I don't know, yet, if that would be a good or bad thing.

Hey Canada brought us Degrassi and Degrassi the Next Generation!

Especially when you look at things like
Japan - 'Quarantined'
Half of Europe now belonging to the USSR!
All countries to be demilitarised (except the U.S. naturally)!

... also find it interesting point 16... the introduction of a International Criminal Court. Something which we now have (@ the Hauge in the Netherlands) but America is one of the few countries that doesn't recognise it because its not American controlled! So, America has actually threatened to invade Europe if any U.S. citizen is ever held there.

...anyway the whole thing sounds like G. Bush's wet dream.

According to my Mom's side of the family (especially my Grandparents), it's supposed to be "The State of the Philippines" or at least "The US Territory of the Philippines"... :eek:

They came here when things didn't go the way they were hoping... :D

One of the best things about being Canadian? Rush is from my home town, as is Linda Evangelista (sp?) - don't know either them or her - I used to work in Banff for a year and a bit. Balanced that out by then spending year in Windsor. I know the person formerly in charge of the 2nd unit camera for Stargate. (hint to watching the early series - watch for a pineapple in Dr Jackson's office. It appears often.) I have had dinner with Richard Dean Anderson - twice. He was on one side of the restaurant and I the other, the first time. Second time he sat right behind me, according to my friends. Being "cool" I never turned around to look. Not once.

Them's fightin' words! Beavertails at 20 paces! :D I'd watch out, near as I can figure out, Canada has never lost a war. And we've been in a few that our American cousins sat out.
 
I like Canada. Is there some hostility between "Americans" and "Canadians" that I don't know about?

We have a lot of a Canadian international students at my university. I'm not exactly sure why.

Additionally, there are an unusually large number of Canadian broadcasters in American media because of their "neutral accents."

A few random thoughts ...

3. You need a new film at Epcot.

In all seriousness, there is usually some low level of resentment from Canadians towards US government policies. Rightly or wrongly, we feel that we should be given better treatment by the US government.... and the US goverment, rightly or wrongly, feels otherwise. Sometimes, Americans will sense some hostility and forget (or not know) that their government can be pretty bone-headed at times (as can ours!) - and sometimes Canadians will forget the difference between Americans and American government decisions. That, plus we'll never forgive you for stealing "The Great One" from Edmonton.

Also, I couldn't help but notice that they keep their streets far cleaner than we do. I don't know if they're tidier or they're more efficient at picking up trash, but I remember being astonished at how rare it was to see litter along the highway. I felt embarrassed.

I will never apologize for it! That was the day that my team was put on the NHL map and I loved it. It no longer is on the map (like the NHL in almost all the rest of the US) but it was great while it lasted. :rolleyes:
