What do I do with a bad iPhone (1st Gen)

So my wife let her iPhone take a swim in the toliet. It was a 1st Gen. Got a referb 8GB 3G from AT&T for $99 to replace it.

After a few days everything worked except the wifi.
Now a week later the screen does not get bright.

1st question.
How do I wipe ALL the info from it.
2nd. What do I do with it? Will apple store recycle it?

I only hope it fell in the toilet before she used it. Because when you take a water damaged iPhone to Apple Store, the damaged water sensor is usually a pink color. Apple might question why its brown.
